Support in the Midst of Educational Challenges in Kosovo
The beginning of the academic year began with large concerns after the Government’s decision not to purchase school textbooks but requesting from parents to apply for the textbook reimbursement via the online platform E-Kosova. This decision posed significant hurdles for our Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities, who often find themselves unfamiliar with such platforms and lack the tools to apply.
Understanding this urgent challenge, our Paralegal, Muhamet Elshani, joined by the proactive youth of Prizren municipality and volunteers from the civil society, embarked on an initiative to guide these communities on how to apply for the reimbursement of textbooks on the E-Kosova platform. More than just informing, they extended hands-on assistance to many in the application process.
This noble mission was conducted in Prizren, Suhareka/Suva Reka and the surrounding villages.
Through their actions, around 180 families, equating to 320 students (190 from grades 1-5 and 130 from grades 6-9), benefitted.
At ECMI Kosovo, we are deeply thankful to Muhamet Elshani and the entire team of paralegals across Kosovo. Their continuous efforts to aid and support our marginalized communities embodies the true spirit of human rights promotion.
The hard work of the team of community-based paralegals located throughout Kosovo, is organized within the HumanRightivism project, implemented by ECMI Kosovo and managed by the Community Development Fund – CDF and funded by the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina.
