Recycling Model Takes Shape: Delivery of Recyclable Waste Containers!

We are delighted to announce the official delivery of recyclable waste containers during a ceremony attended by the Mayor of the Municipality of Fushë Kosovë, Mr. Burim Berisha, and the CEO of RWC Pastrimi, Mr. Petrit Reçica. The event also saw the participation of numerous employees from RWC Pastrimi, who expressed their gratitude for this significant step toward improving the municipality’s waste management infrastructure.

This delivery, provided by ECMI Kosovo through the “Recycling Matters Activity – Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje” funded by USAID, includes 470 units of 1100-liter containers and 473 units of 240-liter containers. These 943 containers will play a key role in strengthening the municipality’s recycling infrastructure and supporting sustainable waste management. The Municipality of Fushë Kosovë and RWC Pastrimi will utilize these resources to better organize and manage waste collection systems.

The bins are color-coded to facilitate waste segregation: yellow bins are designated for recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, and cans, while green bins are used for non-recyclable materials. This system will help increase recycling rates, reduce landfill waste, and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.

The management and utilization of these containers are outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between ECMI Kosovo, the Municipality, RWC Pastrimi, and Recycling Zone LLC, the processing plant established and supported by this project. This collaboration ensures seamless coordination across waste collection, processing, and formal management systems.

An essential component of the “Recycling Matters Activity – Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje” project is the inclusion of informal waste collectors, particularly from the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities, creating opportunities for social and economic integration while addressing environmental challenges.

This initiative marks a transformative step in formalizing and optimizing waste recycling processes. With the support of USAID, key stakeholders, and a detailed plan for container distribution and waste management, this effort is poised to make a lasting impact.

We look forward to continuing this collaborative effort and working together to build a cleaner, greener future for Fushë Kosovë! ♻️💚
