Moments from Closing Event of the Kosovar Week for Prevention of School Dropout, 2024
On Wednesday 27 November, marked the conclusion of the Kosovar Week for the Prevention of School Dropout, an important initiative aimed at raising awareness among education professionals about their critical role in preventing school dropout.

This year’s event, like the two before it, was organized with the dedicated support of ECMI Kosovo, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), within the framework of the project “Supporting continuous access and retention in public education in 15 municipalities of Kosovo”
The project is generously funded by UNICEF through the EU Office in Kosovo, demonstrating the importance of collective efforts in addressing this national concern.

The primary goal of the Week was to ensure that all education professionals are fully aligned with the implementation of the state’s protocol for timely and appropriate interventions for students at high risk of dropping out, across all levels of pre-university education. It is crucial that these protocols are not only understood but consistently applied to secure a brighter future for our students.

The closing event featured key figures, including the Deputy Minister of Education, Deputy Minister of Justice, as well as the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Community Issues and the Director of the Office for Good Governance. Their participation underscored the government’s commitment to addressing this pressing issue.

We used this platform to call for even greater attention to be placed on the prevention of school dropout, urging that it be elevated as a higher state priority. We also emphasized the need for continued efforts in supporting the Municipal Action Plans (MAPs) drafted to tackle this issue. It is essential that these plans are formalized into normative municipal acts to ensure long-term sustainability and commitment.

ECMI Kosovo, in close collaboration with MESTI, remains dedicated to supporting these efforts and ensuring that no student is left behind.

Together, with the invaluable backing of UNICEF and the EU, we will continue to work toward a future where all children in Kosovo have the opportunity to complete their education.
