Empowering Communities and Filling Gaps: Inside the Recycling Zone of Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje

We recently visited the “Recycling Zone” in Fushë Kosovë with USAID representatives to inspect the equipment provided to the company through the Recycling Matters Activity in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje. During the visit, participants received detailed briefings on the functionality of the recycling equipment and machinery, working conditions, and the company’s overall work process.

In addition to meeting the management and the newly hired staff responsible for operating the equipment, we were shown the recycling process and working methods involved. The company has been operational for several years now, and it is owned and staffed by Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian community members who live nearby.
The newly acquired machinery will enable the company to employ up to 15 full-time staff members, significantly expanding its capacity. Companies that handle unsorted recyclable waste through separation, cleaning, sorting, and mixing until producing granules are rare in Kosovo. This step will not only empower the communities but will also fill a crucial gap in the entire recycling chain that the Recycling Matters Activity is building in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje.

This event was part of the “Recycling Matters Activity Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje” project, which is funded by USAID Kosovo.
